Launch Conditions at Coral St in Pacific Grove

Hey everyone,

I’ve searched through the posts here, but I’d appreciate some direct advice about launching from the beach next to Coral St in Pacific Grove, CA.

What conditions do you usually look for before launching there?  I’d appreciate guidance on ideal swell height, swell period, swell direction, wind, tides, and anything else that makes that launch safer or sketchier.

When I went to school at CSUMB, and lived in Marina, I'd park and launch from Coral St all the time, it's a great dive spot, and regular fishing too. Swell doesn't hit the cove hard, look for any 3.5' or less day. Stay to the left (as you look at the ocean) as you launch and head out. The left, next to the rocks, is more protected than other launch angles. Street parking is free there. There is a ledge/drop off, so you can't walk/pull your yak all the way to the water in one go. You need to stage your yak at the top of the ledge, hop down, then pull your yak down with you. Watch out for fisherman off the rocks, sometimes their lines cross in front of where you paddle out.

I'm curious, are you launching there to try to get to the squid grounds easier, or to target shallow water lings and rockfish there?

I've just never fished that side!  However, based on some previous posts, I understand that they're some nice fish in the area (i.e., rockfish, lingcod, and halibut).  Maybe we can go together sometime.

By the way, I'm one of the two subscribers that said hello to you on the water the other day, haha.
