I was just up at the South boat ramp and it looks like the Corp is trying to keep the 4X4 idiots from tearing up the dirt parking area where we launch. They've put down a bunch of concrete barricades with only a small opening for vehicles. There is a chain attached to one side of the barricade and it looks like they might start locking it at times.

I'll try and stop by at the Corp office today and find out their plans.

CHEERS!

Attached is a photo of the new barricades as viewed from the parking area. The word is that Friday they will close it off completely, so it's time to break out the cart!

Hell, this may just give Sean even more business  :smt002 I've had locals come up to me after a day of fishing in Mendo...and they seem to like the idea of the kayak thing. With the Lake being shut down like this, we may see more local kayakers besides those dam ugly "Mendo Crew" dudes  :smt077

I would love to camp again.  I had fun @ Del Valle finding out how much gear I could get on the tarpon 120, then realizing that it was actually tracking better with the extra weight on the bow.
My only problem is the distance.  Plus I am a little paranoid about driving on freeway.  My forward hatch came of and banged around on the roof while going down the freeway @ 4 a.m. last saturday.  It was so loud, I thought my roof rack broke.  I almost crapped my pants.  A little duct tape will fix that problem, but I am wondering if my method of transport is safe or not.

sorry.....just jealous  :smt011

Sumo - ever try hauling your yak upside down? Give that shot and see if it works. Also, I know some Tarpon owners that add on the buckle system to better lock & secure the tupper wear type of hatch. On long drives, I also run a cable lock through the scupper holes of my yak and through my lumber rack JUST IN CASE the springs on the straps slip or break. I'd hate to see my kayak fly off my rack and cause serious injury or even death to the cars behind me  :smt011

I was imagining just that all the way home from Chabot last saturday.  How many scuppers do you run the cable lock through?  One cable, or multiple?  I drove all the way to BAM with no issues, but I would like the extra security for the just-in-case situations.

Sumo, The cable lock I have is long enough to run through both front scupper holes but I normally just go through one. If I'm driving and I feel the wind gusting strong (like HWY152- going to and from the Forebay) I'll pull over and go through 2 scupper holes.

Better safe than sorry  :smt002

I am going to do something like that.  Like you said, better safe than sorry.  Camping @ mendo sounds good if I don't have to work.  I am still licking my wounds after not catching anything at BAM.  I want to get some minnows and redeem myself.  Its not about the competition, but just landing something in the kayak.  I caught two midget LMB during the Del Valle camp and couldn't be happier.

Haha!
Hey Joel, my 15 year old daughter would reply "You're just jealous" to that one.

I have to say that over the years I have enjoyed Lake Mendocino the most in the dead of winter and when the boat ramps are inaccessible to PB's. Selfish of me? Mmmm, maybe!  :smt003
