Donner lake 3/14

Was gonna hit Pyramid but due to wind forecast delayed it a day and did a morning at Donner. Top lined a Quickfish on one side and put another on the DR at 25’-40’ depths. Picked up 3 on the top line on 1/2 hr, then took another hour for 2 more. Only one was on the DR at 30’. All rainbows on the 13”-16” range. The wind came up around 10am and I was suddenly very aware of how bad it would be to go into 40 degree water. I added a 1oz wt to the top lined side and picked up a nice 23” Brown. I picked up one more 14” rainbow before calling it around 11:30.

Been tempted to fish there in the past but not in the those type of conditions might be a good place for full fleece under a dry suit.

I used to fish at Donner Lake using a float tube during the summer.  Most of the trout were caught on the West side of the lake, but nothing close to your fish.

Would that photo be good for AOTY?  I know that the mouth-closed issue has been around for a long time (it wasn't, at first), but I'm wondering, from your photo, if the rule's been relaxed for the whole mouth-closed issue.  I've long thought that a natural position is more important than the mouth being closed.  Anyway, looks like a legit 23"+ to me, easily!   

I entered another pic with the mouth nearly completely closed and it was 22.5”. I also caught and kept a rainbow with a weird underbite.

Impressive catches!  Very nice trout.

Nice work Joe, looks like a very nice place to spend a few hours on the water!

Hit Pyramid today and it sucked. My steering cable broke so I had to try to steer with my paddle. It was pretty difficult with two rods and the dog since the Lynx has zero tracking. I ended up with one 17 inch trout and left at 1 PM, not sticking around for the possible afternoon bite.
