Hey everyone,

In the past few months I've taken a couple of freedive classes but haven't been out into the ocean yet because I didn't want to rent a suit.  I was looking around online but really wanted to buy locally in case I had any problems with the suit.  Luckily I held out for a while because this weekend Wallins was having a 40% off sale on Omer suits and some pretty good discounts on other suits and gear in the store (not sure about percentages).  I thought the sale was only for Saturday but I emailed David and he told me to go into the store...they still had the signs up so I'm assuming the sale was still going on.  Anyway, I walked out of there with a 6.5 mil. Omer suit in the kelp camo color for just shy of $300.  I don't have any personal point of reference as far as comfort or price but the suit was comfortable and extremely warm (couldn't stop sweating until about 10 minutes after I took it off) and the price was right (compared to its non-sale price).  Looked like they still had a few suits...if you're in the market this may be a good deal.  Assuming of course that the sale price is still valid.

The suit now completes my basic gear (no speargun yet and probably not until I feel pretty comfortable in the water) so I'm pretty much ready to get out there and do some exploring.

Congrats and welcome to the newbie divers club. Lets get a hookup going in november to do some diving.

We should have Fuzz or some of the other more experienced divers put on a spearfishing clinic for us.

Brian, a hookup sounds good to me.  I'll probably be out in Tahoe the first weekend of November, but any weekend after that would be good for me.

Let me know when you guys decide to go for a swim. I just need fins, a snorkle and weights and I'm good to go. I'd really like to do a practice dive at Lovers Point. Lot's of reef and calm waters there.

I know Fuzz is busy right now with school and he'll be going back to Hawaii for the Holidays. Perhaps we can get other Pro's in this site to help us newbies out  :smt002

I'm holding off on a spear gun until I'm really comfy in the water. I'm thinking of starting off with a Hawaiian Sling - Fuzz told me it teaches you how to better sneak-up close to a fish without having to spook 'em.

Also interested in doing some crawdad diving.

Mooch,
Good to see you now have booties , gloves and a hood.

I have extras in all three ....also a small speargun and a hawaiian slings well.
But, the fish life off Lovers Cove needs to be spared no?
I mean it seems that everyone shoots at those poor little fish!
At the Stillwater, big fat olives are in now. Blues and blacks 1 & a half to 2-3 lbs lb as well all over the place. Thats how to get started!

And, after that....if you have a big hatch....you pull out the rod and fish!
I was thinking of going tomorrow while the waters still pretty calm.

Great deal Pacifico! Wish I was still in the neighborhood... All you guys getting all spearo now. I'm interested in getting into it here but the water is a tad more colder so could be "adventurous." I've head there is some good spearing to be had though.

Here's a vid on a local dive park. Not exactly monterey or carmel but looks fun.

Joel, I have all of the above and you're free to borrow the gear anytime (assuming the fins will fit on those hobbit feet of yours).

Reefer - I'm not looking into spearing yet. Just wanna study / observe the sea life for now. I'm in no hurry to do any spearing at all.

Pete, thanks for the offer but I don't wanna leave any hobbit "hair" in your fins....coz that's just gross  :smt078   ...and that you happen to be a nice guy, so I'll spare you...for now at least :smt002

Didn't I give you a set?
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Hey Ben, if you find another I'll take it  :smt003

Between yak fishin' and getting into diving I'm gonna have to find a part time job or a sugar momma.
