No jail time and only restricted from fishing for a year is weak!   Should be banned for life.

It's worse than that, as that tuna/mack amount was less than a month of work:

...the Trans had sold 243 tuna and about 3,000 pounds of mackerel in less than a month. Investigators also issued a search warrant and found evidence of prior fishing activity that targeted crab, striped bass, halibut, shark, rockfish, lingcod, sea bass and clams.

The penalty does seem ridiculously light:

As part of the Trans’ plea agreement, they forfeited $66,000 seized from their home, surrendered fishing gear and are barred from fishing activities for a year.

The pair will not serve jail time.

They seem happy with the cash they found and kept was enough
