Sometimes I see something and it reminds me of something else. In this case the frayed end of a para cord resembled the tail of a hair raiser which prompted me to make these flys.I've been using these for the last season or so when targeting rockfish in extra deep or rough structure and the extra heavy line helps keep things from getting tangled and reduces the need to retie after ever lingcod.

First get your supplies together. you will need some line (whatever old heavy stuff you have stashed away will do), a couple big hooks, two 3" lengths of paracord (whatever color you like!), magic string and perhaps a swivel.

Now pull the outer sheath off the inner core strands untill there's just about 1" still connecting them, snip off the excess sheath and thread the hooks. At this point you want to melt the head of the "fly" to keep it all from falling apart as well as do some tight thread wraps to keep it from sliding down the hook.

And finally a couple dropper loops and some surgeon knots and you're ready to catch some big rockfish!

Looks nice.   I am sure RFs will go for it.

Looks like a winner to me! Catching fish on homemade stuff is always cool - makes it feel a little more rewarding.

Started with a trap rig with the same 60# mono that wore out then moved to the paracord shrimp fly eventually it got snagged and finish the day with a swimbait until the fish tore it up and ate the tail. All where relatively the same effective was using herring on the fly at point as well.

Seemed to work!

This is AWESOME. Thank you.

Right on Moo, thanks for all the tips you share and enjoyed your latest video, really captured the feeling of the bite!

Heck yeah PISCEAN, I suspect you have plenty of offcuts of paracord in many colors from your awesome gaffs!

I'm also thinking it's a good backpacking or survival option and a reason to carry a little cord, hooks and line on adventures. Different diameters could make different sizes and small ones could be used for freshwater fish such as trout or tiny ones for sabiki....

very cool!  I tied some up with cheap poly ropes I found, cut and unraveled.  Looked good and the fishes liked them too.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.
