I recently finally sprang for a drysuit (having previously used a 7mm Farmer John) and partially based on the recommendation of one of our NCKA breathren, opted for the Soul Drysuit sold by Mustang Survival. I found some discount coupons and got it for $504.

I've used it three times now and it's fantastic, and so nice to be dry! -- really high-quality product --  EXCEPT for one thing that's not its fault: Wet feet.

It has ankle gaskets and no built-in socks/booties. Maybe it's really meant for kite surfers or other water-sporters that need to feel things with their bare feet. I wear the same neoprene booties I wore with the Farmer John. The only thing my feet are doing is pedaling a kayak.

When I'm back on shore, it's so nice to be dry, except I'm not -- at least my feet aren't.

Question: Are there any kind of waterproof boots I can get that would go up to, say, my calves? That I could put on over the drysuit legs? That should cover the typical surf launches I do, as the water doesn't go very far past the ankle.

Any suggestions appreciated. Really wish I'd gotten a full suit.

Probably NRS Boundary socks or knee high Sealskinz socks but those won't be super durable or insulating.

Could also do hip boots or 17" neoprene boots. But it would kind of suck if you swamped them or had to swim with them.

NRS Boundary Boots, but I am not sure about the price ($199)
I purchased one for $113 during a sale less than 4 months ago.

If I put these socks on first and then the drysuit with the ankle gaskets over the top, do you think I'd get a good seal that'd keep the water out if I flipped? I'm thinking the ankle gaskets have to be on bare skin but I'm not positive.

These must be what you were talking about the other day --- I couldn't find them after you told me about them, but here they are. $199 is more than I want to spend, but if I can find them on sale like you did recently these would probably be great, thx.

Could you settle for wet but warm feet?  Then you could get some really thick neoprene socks and oversized thick booties.

I now wear wool socks with my neoprene booties -- feet are plenty warm. Problem is the wetness. Not going to kill me, but sure would be nice to be totally dry at the end of the day.

How thick are your current booties?  I wear 7mil, and am usually pretty comfy.  Maybe try some 9 mil?  Not sure you will find a solution to keep your feet totally dry, especially if interfacing with the pant leg on a dry suit.  All of the boot/sock options would be fine until you get water over the top, which would be on launch for me.  I go almost knee deep even in freshwater with no swell/water movement.

Another possible solution is to launch barefoot and then put on dry socks/booties once on the water.  Or, plan to change socks/shoes once on the water.  More stuff to carry, but if it keeps you comfortable...

This just my opinion. I would be have gone with a Kokatat Angler semi drysuit. It already comes with socks. I wear NRS Paddle wetshoes + 2 times my foot size to fit my wool socks and the drysuit socks.  Kokatat offers leak repairs and sock relacements too.
