I got a limit of lingcod off a Santa Cruz rental skiff yesterday. kind of/could have. I lost about a 30 inch lingcod at the boat with a bad gaff job. I used the net on the next one, about 24 inches and it made it home for dinner tonight. Both took large live Jack smelt off the bottom. I also fought, what I think was a medium sized shark, for five minutes before it broke me off at the hook. Fun fight, but it was swimming erratically and staying at the bottom. that also took a live jack smelt. Lots of live jack smelt in Santa Cruz yesterday. I also used three crab hoops, besides the expected rock crabs, I caught a surprising amount of large, juvenile Dungeness crabs, between 4 and 5 inches. maybe Santa Cruz will produce legal sized Dungeness crabs next year? no pics, nothing special and not a yak.

Thanks for the report and those were probably slender crabs, not dungies.

Thanks for the report. I’m going to try to get on the water soon, but I’ve been saying that for months…

Always a good day on the skiffs. Were they mostly yellow rock crab down there?

Thanks for the report! Great to know some baits are around. Thinking maybe Saturday
