Long time reader, first time w/report. You guys and gals are great
w/your reports. Thanks. Late launch, 1:30pm. Conditions good, lite
on shore wind mixed with a little south, a bit of a swell, but lack of
winds the key. Water, not the best, maybe 10 ft. visability on the
outside, less closer to shore. Choose bait for today. Sardines and
squid, whole!!! All moorings are out of there now, even the little shed at the end of pier, gone! Didn't see other kayak fisherman,
but 3 tourists looking for furbags! I'm allright w/that, at least they got on the water! 2 1/2 hrs. working hard. 2 or 3 drops and moving to the next hole. My experience w/Lings has been that if they don't hit on the drop, wait a bit for a vermillion, etc., then move. I'm
used to at least finding Olives or Blues, but NO LOVE. Then, in
about 35ft. of water, 300 yards outside the two rocks, using
whole squid, I found a killer formation. 35 went to 25 within a yard
or two on each side. Decided to switch to sardine on this spot.
On the drop, right as I reached bottom, slam! 30" Ling on! The usual 4 or 5 runs straight down. Landed this big male, then he spits
out a big octupus on my lap! I'll be using this tomorrow. Worked
another hour, nothing! Very surprised! Pics soon.
