Tomales today 10/22

Impromptu trip based on conditions and reports . No halibut yet but after a long battle, caught and released a nice Thresher shark. Hardest battle I’ve ever had in a kayak. Multiple jumps and runs and dives.

The second thrasher shark was much larger. It towed me maybe half mile or more towards Inverness. I just could not budge that thing, but finally secured its tail. Then I had to pedal half mile to a beach where I could deal with unhooking it and taking some photos.

Mabel and I are finally back home. She was snoring up a storm on the car ride home. I’ll have to process any video I have and make the photos better and post up when it’s all done.
I think I had one hali-bite. I met one other kayaker who got a 30”+ halibut.

Here's a link to a video I made from the iphone. I missed a lot of acrobatics since I only captured times when I had a hand free.

I looked at the time stamps on the photos and videos.
The first fight was about 20-25 minutes long. The second was about 45 minutes until boating, and then another 40 minutes of pedaling and dragging the fish backwards, holding onto its tail, over to the beach. Looking at Google maps, I think it actually towed me a mile. I had to go NW to get to Tomales Beach.
