Went to the Napa for a morning session today. Fished 7:30-12:30. Followed the tide from Cuttings down to Napa Sough and back. A-rig then Rattletrap, with some casting of glide bait. Slow for me with 3 schoolies 15"-16" near the slough where I marked small thick schools. Moved on looking for larger fish. Still looking for a keeper this year.

If a seagull poops on you, statistically it was no accident.

I’m up for a Benicia trip in October or November.

Stick with it. I recommend fly lining some mud suckers. For some reason I never had much success with glides on the napa.  On the delta, I throw glides more than anything else. I've caught plenty of fish on the napa on larger baits 8"+ but all of my larger fish have come on small 4" swimbaits. A 4" hand poured white w/ chartreuse tail swimbait with a 3/8 oz head has been my biggest producer. Inserting a small glass rattle into the bait seems to help aswell. Another bait I always had on hand was a 4" keitech style swimbait rigged on a weedless swimbait hook. I like the weedless hook for trolling up shallow in the ponds. If you live near by I recommend taking a stroll on the mare island causeway at night. When I lived in the area i would do this several times a week. When the fish where in the area it was usually pretty obvious, you could hear and sometimes even see them. Whenever I saw a lot of activity I would plan a kayak session ASAP. This lead to some really fun nights and sore thumbs. For a while I was keeping my kayak in the vallejo marina on the dock, it was awesome being able to fish after work dayly.

Its going to happen. Put in the time, make the casts, and you'll be rewarded. Daytime tides were pretty mild this weekend so the fish were likely more spread out than usual. As Youngblood said, consider ditching the glide and tying on a small white swimbait instead.
