Edit: changed date to Fri 8/29

With the swell and conditions so calm later this week I'm looking to finally try a surf launch at Westport (30 minutes north of Fort Bragg) -- at the campground at that bend just north of Westport:

https://www.westportbeachrvpark.com

Normally it's just too rough there on the exposed beach. But Friday looks good! It's a $10 day pass (they open at 8am) and you can park right by the beach and cart over the relatively flat sand to the water.

I was up there in a boat in May and we killed it with lingcod and plenty of rockfish. The normally daunting surf launch keeps the kayak fishermen away and the distance keeps most of the boats away, so it's not as heavily fished as places further south on this stretch of coast. The Navionics app shows some good structure around a lot of sandy spots, so I'll possibly try for flatfish as well.

Join me if you can -- I plan to be there at 8am.

James

I will join you.  It will be interesting to try a new area.  Plan to launch my Stealth kayak.

Will be anxiously waiting for the report as you said a rough launching Zone and due to the close proximity of easier launches within a 40-minute drive south we just never did it there but a great place to camp and pursue day and night smelt

I wish I was there with you guys! Conditions look absolutely calm! Should be an easy launch.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

Hopefully you made out and back safely.  My brother and I have launched a few time around Westport and even in great conditions it can be tricky.
