Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Its a bummer, but I fully expect there not to be a recreational abalone season anytime soon, possibly not in our lifetime.  There are urchin barrens everywhere, and kelp is still sparse.

The kelp will regrow without much help. Spores are in the water, but they get eaten by the urchins when they start to grow. Wish we could cure the Sea star wasting disease, then raise the stars and let them to regulate the urchin populations.
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

I have talked to wildlife biologists a few months ago about raising the sea star in captivity and releasing them back into the wild. I was going to see if this was happening and if not how can I start something up for this. The biologist said there are already a few places that are breeding and raising them in captivity for release and it will take about 10 years before we start seeing any effects from this if they survive. I don’t think they will ever have a cure other then lowering our oceans temperature back to normal.

Decent kelp at Noyo and some other Mendo coves this summer. Not many abs still. I see many more down in SoCal.

Hopefully the new research findings will help them control for V. pec in raising the new sea stars.

Used to be spots in mendo county I could go in the dark for abs in the shallows Same in SMateo county I knew every crevice at my go to spots, nothing in there but the abs. If I was younger and up for it I’d go just to see what’s there

Seems like there’s plenty of kelp around SCruz and north of it, can’t remember it disappearing at any point

Probably never fish salmon here again either
