Sorry to be so slow with this, All

Randy and I stayed around home on opening weekend.  We fished Stillwater Cove, off of Carmel on Friday and Sunday, and Monterey Bay, off of Lover's Point, on Saturday.
Conditions were swelly but nice.  We each got our first Lings and Cabs of the Season.  We also hooked up with Gopher, Blue (Black?), Kelp, and Copper Rockfish.
We used primarily squid, plus rootbeer Scampi's.
I hope the foggy pictures are hooking up okay.  Randy's Ling is really 30 inches, it's just not the best picture.

That's some thick kelp right there!  Nice fish!
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

nice fish.  I need to go back down to Carmel.

BTW, I edited your post so the pictures show up.  right click the picture, then properties.  highlight and copy the link in the properties ending .jpg into your report.

ahhhhhhhhh.  Thank you, Kevin.
It's a very pleasant area to fish in.  Not the biggest fish but generally slow/steady action.

The birds in the area do in fact walk on the kelp.  And the swallows hunt bugs over it.  An interesting place to fish.

Hey Seabreeze - is that one of those portable FF's on your yak?

If so, how does that work for you?

Thanks, and nice fish!

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

Yes, it is, Rock Hopper
It is Humminbird's discontinued Pirahna 1 in their portable holder.  It runs on 8 AA batteries.  It's never gone dead on me but I replace the batteries after about 6 trips (average4-6 hours).  I did learn the hard way to remove the batteries after each trip.......... :smt013
I attached straps and made a little thingy to keep it in place over the forward cupholder in my Prowler 13.  Randy glued the puck to the inside of my hull.  So the puck is permanent, but I run AA's rather than a bigger battery for its power.
The Piranha 1's depth range is only 240 feet.  Fine with our local limitations on rockfish, but leaves a bit wanting when chasing salmon.
