Had a great time at the 1st annual "Chillin at Del valle" get together,  met a lot of famous people, (from the web site that is) and now I can place a person with their post's.  Well, the weekend wasn't without it's hardships, besides my rudder snapping in half again, my epoxy job didn't hold up to the lake shore too well, but i was able to repair it again using, of all things  Crazy glue from the marina store, and duct tape. Was able to get out on the water again and operate normally.
Discovered that my OB was not very rain proof, as I had an amount of water in the hull,  looked close to a quart in quantity.  All hatches were closed and locked down, so, the seals may not be sealed.   I'll address the hatches with some silicon to hopefully fix any leaking issues.
While unloading the OB at the truck (preparing to leave Sunday) As I was wiping down the drive well, I noticed at the front of the drive well, (the spot that has caused all the cracks & leaks in the past) where the drive rests, some mud, so I wiped out, and then noticed a nice little 3/32" hole in through the hull!   :smt013
I was looking at the hot glue I had placed inside the hull to reinforce the whole drive rest area just after I got the hull. (Pre Hobie repair kit for that area) Fortunately I used enough hot glue inside to completely seal up the entire area around that little spot where the front of the drive rests on the hull. (Sorry no pictures yet,but there will be!) Apparently, a small pebble or stone might have been lodged up under the drive after the few landings where I didn't remove the drive before beaching, and after some peddling, the pebble or stone, I think was forced into the hull cracking it in a circular way in effect popping a hole into the hull.
I'll repair the surface hole with either epoxy (not the 5-min stuff, but with the epoxy supplied in the Hobie repair kit) or maybe with hot glue again.
Something I learned from all this, is to have some kind of repair kit in/on the kayak at all times!  The crazy glue worked well for joining both sections of the rudder back together, so I'll have a tube of it secured somewhere, also, maybe some of the 5-min epoxy for any surprise punctures or splits that may happen. And perhaps some duct tape just in case!

Add this to the list of ways a hobie can get jacked.  Hobie's take in so much water, through the rudder lines, hatches, and especially a CRACKED mirage drivewell.  When I think about all the water uptake, it makes me scratch my head.

But then again, I do have multiple hobie mirages, so I guess that does say something about how much I do like em (from pro v. con perspective anyway).

let me know if you need any polyethylene.  I've got tons of the stuff from salvaged hobie hulls.  Also got a heat gun.

Ah  hadn't thopught about reinforcing the area with hull material!  Don't have, didn't think of it.  It would be nice to build that little spot up again with same material (hull plastic) where are you located?  Can you send me a pm? Perhaps I can borrow your heat gun and some scrap polyethylene.
