Catch and Cook: Korean Fish Cake Soup

It was a pretty slow day on the water. 7/10 full moon didn't seem to ignite a hot squid bite either. But I managed enough for the recipe I wanted to replicate. I'm a veteran, stationed in South Korea 23 years ago. Fell in love with the food. Coming out of a club, buzzed on soju, in the cold snowy winter, a hot cup of fish broth and fish cake warmed you up and was delicious, and cheap.

Really enjoyed your video. I'm inspired to make the fish cakes and broth from fresh rockfish and squid. One of my daughters especially loves Korean food, so can't wait to share with her.

I love fish cake.  Sometimes I take a couple of fish cake bars with me to kayak fishing to eat for lunch.
You are a much better Korean food cook than I, who is Korean.  I purchase fish cakes from a Korean grocery store and have never tried to make them.

Thanks for sharing. Enjoy different styles of cooking. Some great memories with fellow Marines in "Cold-rea". Enjoyed some great food on the island of, Okinawa as well.

My wife made Taiwanese fish balls from halibut once, and they turned out great. But, sadly, she won't make them again, because she could never get the food processor clean afterwards...

I like the squid flavor better.  They sell them in some Korean grocery stores in the frozen section.  On the morning of the fishing trip, I just placed them in my Hobie Vantage seat bag.  They will be ready to eat around lunchtime.

Interesting. Enjoyed fish cakes in my youth... but these recent posts have got me re-evaluating. May have to try to squid
