Rancho Leonero report, 10/6-10/13

We (the four of us) had a tough trip in the beginning...the wind was blowing and boats couldn't go out from Rancho Leonero. Sunday, we stayed in and played poker. I have to say...I won!! On Monday we had to go out on a cruiser since pangas couldn't go out. We all got sick except Steve who reeled in most of the fish! I landed a small Marlin, Brian landed a nice dodo, Todd landed a bonito and Steve landed a few small dodos and once nice 25lber.

The next day we didn't go out, too windy!! We went out on a kayaks and didn't get much. Wed cleared up a bit and Todd and I got a couple dodos and nice football skipjack. Steve and Brain did good and landed three nice tuna. Steve got the jackpot fish that weighed 65lbs!! Awesome!! Brian caught a nice 45lber and Steve got another smaller one too.

Thursday was our day and I got a nice 54lber that kicked my butt on the trevala rod. I'll never use that rod for big tuna again!! No lifting power...it took me an agonizing hour to land it. See photo attached. Todd got a nice 49'ber that he wipped in no time with his big gear. We also got a dodo and some skipjack.

Friday was calm and Todd and I decided to go out on a panga again. We ended up with four football tunas and some small roosterfish. Brian and Steve stayed back and got some kayaking in. Steve caught a rooster and Brian a nice pompano. There were some roosters working the shoreline and a another guy on a yak caught a few along with a nice pargo.

Sat it finally cleared and we had to go home!! Dang!! It was perfect kayak weather!!  Oh well, we had a great time and brought home full ice chests full of fish!!
