TLA and I went out to Lake Mendocino and Clear Lake on March 28-29 in search of Crappie for the AOTY contest while big blue condition was no bueno. I've never caught a crappie before and this was my 2nd and 3rd time targeting Crappie.

it's crappie, don't set the hook so hard. It tears the mouth and they get off.  Slow steady pull and constant pressure will get more Crappie to the net. Wishin I was fishin too!!! :smt006
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Stripers used to be planted there. Not anymore. The only ones left are the leftovers, and they are few in numbers. I don't know that they ever spawned there, even in years with good water flow.
I think it's a bit early for crappie there, when you were there. Now might be better though.
Thanks for the report and video.
I wish it was me posting a report!
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

Hi Moo, I bet you don't know they call them "paper mouth".  Many of your "got off" due to your hard-core hook set  :smt003. Love your enthusiasm.

I asked Moo this very question a while back in a PM:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KVVGWBW?th=1&psc=1

I got one and have used it a couple of times. It's better than what I was using, but my sun glasses still fog up sometimes...

I thought I was being gentle with the hook set but I guess I still have muscle memory of hook setting a bass or sturgeon  :smt044 :smt044
Thanks for the tip  :smt006

Thanks for the info. I was just hoping to get a lucky bite while going from point A to point B.

Yes my sunglasses still fog up when the air temp is low but I think it still fogs up less than hoo-rag type covers
