Great day out. Personally I only caught some rockfish, an octopus and an undersized ling. Congrats who won the derby and also the raffle.

I also happened to see a GW shark today (part of it anyway) as well in 40 ft of water right in front of MBK kayaks. Right after launching, I was using a sabiki to try and pick up some baits when I heard thrashing in the water right behind to my left. I thought it was a sea lion but the thrashing didn't seem to stop and was very loud. I turned and saw the dorsal fin of a shark moving through the water about 6 ft away and switching directions rapidly. The shark was on the surface and was creating a lot of suds (perhaps it was feeding). I yelped and started pedaling out of there and thankfully it didn't follow me. All I could think of is that guy on the other post where he had to climb on his inverted kayak after he was attacked.

You saw the shark, too?  I was halfway to the hotel when it came up behind my kayak and followed me for a bit.  It looked to be about 4-6 feet from the tail fluke to the dorsal fin.  It was too close for me to see its head over my stern.  It followed me for a couple dozen yards and then started swirling a bunch before taking off.  I also had a sabiki in the water at the time.  Really interesting.

Glad that it wasn't aggressive. For some reason I didn't think that sharks made the way down that close to the beach. But I guess they can be anywhere.

They are commonly seen in drone footage just outside the breakers at many local beaches.  It sure was a majestic sighting.  I was bummed it only lasted a minute.

Wow! I had sharks on my mind briefly. I wonder if my subconscious picked up on clues while my conscious mind did not.

If a seagull poops on you, statistically it was no accident.

It must've swam by you because my encounter was just a few minutes after I offered you a sabiki and I figure it probably came directly from where ark was by the launch.

Bummer I missed it, but at one point Mabel may have spotted it. She was kind of bird-dogging on something I did not see. Come to think of it I did see some thrashing and figured it was a sea lion but it never surfaced again, which is odd.

While out on the safety boat we saw a few very large Molas around and had one fully breach.
