Registered!   First fishing tourney and almost 1yr on the Kayak so not expecting to win much other than having a good time on the waters.

The MBK Derby is a fantastic first tourney.  If you don't have a buddy, you'll be able to tag along with a group you meet in the parking lot or on the beach no problem.  It's a pretty easy launch and there will be plenty of folks there to help give advice (usefulness tbd ;) ).  The raffle has tons of great prizes, so winning is nice and all, but you don't need to do well on the water to go home with some awesome gear.  It was my first tourney, too, and I came home with a brand new rod from the raffle.  Good luck and see ya on the water!

I will take the blame for Nthn510 not having a buddy for his first fishing tournament. I was the one who told him about it and asked if he would join me but last minute concert plan made by the wife changed that plan. Nthn510, has been trying really hard to learn the sport by coming with me on almost every trip. I feel terrible for not being there with him but I assure him that this community has really good people that are more than willing to help a fellow angler out. Great way to meet other enthusiasts. Good luck to everyone doing the tournament.

Good luck all! Can you imagine if someone won with a Salmon?  Ive caught salmon late in the season. Funniest was fishing out by the aquarium drifting for halibut/ling with a larger sandab. My rod tip starts doing the salmon bounce and as i real up slow, the salmon is following it to the surface. The salmon season was already over but fun to witness.

Hey Thanh,  no blame man.  Things always happen when you don’t expect it.  Thought about the MTF surf fishing tourney many times before but never could make the time.   Now I’m off shore and on kayaks, the MBK looked like it’ll be fun so gonna give it a try.

TedSki, will surely PM you to join the group.  Would love to join the group.
You can always make more money.  You can never recover time spent.  Find your happy place and enjoy life.

This looks really fun, I'll have to figure out if I can make the drive down!

I'm very new to the ocean as a fisherman around here. How does the tournament actually work? Total weight, biggest fish, specific species? I've just been releasing my fish so far, but I assume it's not a CPR event, so I'd need to sort out a clip or fish bag or something right?
