Hi guys,
Just bought a second hand Maverick XLT today.  Need advise to DIY install a hitch to transport my kayak like the one in the picture below.

Are you actually talking about the hitch or bed extender?
My setup is like the one in picture also.

Thanks Fishcomb.  I also need the eyes hitch parts since this truck doesn't have towing package.

You could probably order a hitch (Amazon/etrailer) and install it yourself =)

Thanks Jason.  A friend told me to check with U-haul.  I'll call them for a quote on the hitch first the see how much I can save on installing it myself.

Nice truck, Sonny
I installed hitches on two of my Subaru Outbacks, which took a few hours. I ordered my hitches from Amazon and watched several YouTube videos before doing it.  I raised the rear axle on plastic ramps to elevate the rear.  Good luck.

I've done several hitches myself. Did a search in the internet. Followed instructions on vehicle id. All were easily bolted on. Also purchased with chain rings. Good luck. Shouldn't be too difficult.

Congrats on the new ride!

U Haul is a good choice - they can usually install same day or next day. Or, you can buy it there and install yourself.  E-Trailer is a good choice too; I've had good experiences there.

Looking good, Sonny!  Let us know what kind of mileage you get and the other pro's and con's.  I'm thinking of going back to a smaller truck after 25 years of full size V8's.

Congrats on the new ride. I'm loving mine.

It’s very easy—I’ve done a couple myself. You might look at etrailer.com for hitches…
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?
