I just turned 62 and my fishing license is to expire a week from today.

I am considering purchasing a lifetime fishing license for $691.75.  The 2025 annual license is $62.90.
Do you see any reason for not purchasing the lifetime license?
Thank you for your advice.

License Package   2025 Fee   Schedule
Ages 0-9           $691.75
Ages 10-39   $1,131.75
Ages 40-61   $1,019.50
Ages 62+           $691.75

I bought a lifetime when I turned 40. I factored in that I would be in CA until at least 50. So 10 years of buying an annual at the price at the time was more than an annual. Factor in price increases on the annual and it will probably pay for itself in 10 ish years. You seem pretty darn healthy for your age so I don’t see any reason you wouldn’t be fishing way past the next 10 years.

Thank you, John.
I think I have a good chance of fishing for the next 10 years.

I have not done any freshwater fishing for over 15 years and I don't see the need for the Fishing Privilege Package.

Hey there, I just turned 69, made the mistake of not buying mine when I turned 62, oh well. I just purchased my lifetime, better late than never,  see you out on the water all, Ron.

If you plan to keep fishing for at least 11 more years, the lifetime license pays for itself. Plus, you lock in the price and don’t have to worry about renewing every year. Only downside I see is if something unexpected stops you from fishing long-term. If you're confident you'll keep at it, seems like a solid deal.

my wife bought me the lifetime hunting/fishing license years ago (30ish?), I've wandered back and forth from the sports, but feel it has probably paid for itself.  I do add on the second rod, and a few others some years

enjoy it.

I got my lifetime license last year at 43…..I got another 10 years till retirement and don’t plan on leaving the state any time soon, if ever….and I figured that I’ve spent lots more money on worse things lol.

Headed to the shop today to pick up my first renewal……15 more years till I break even lol.

Still worth it if you move out of state and come back to fish 10ish days or something like that. The lifetime hunting license is a good deal too if you move out of state and hunt deer.

So are you buying the $467 second stamp or are you renewing it each year?? You're really looking at $1160 if you get it at one time

I am not getting the Fishing Privilege Package: $467.25 since I am not much into freshwater fishing.

They should prorate it for decades lived

All my saltwater time for the last 5-6 years has been swimming while my son surfs so I haven’t fished in a while

Majority of my fishing was solely for salmon and if their numbers were good I’d carve out time for that. Given how dismal their prospects are that’s off the table for me even if they reopen it

On the other hand the current prices of any kind of seafood makes a lifetime license pretty attractive
