Hey All!

My name is Pete, and I'm located in the North Bay area. I do not currently own a Kayak, however I love fishing off the jetties in Bodega Bay, and would love to get to know any advice or tips y'all may have!

Welcome, Pete.   :smt001

I was an avid abalone diver for years before moving more toward shore fishing.  Then I got a kayak, and everything changed.  Get on a kayak when you can - that's my advice!

Hi Peter,

Welcome to the forum.
My main advice would be to "Buy Once, Cry once." and not buy a cheap kayak from Dicks or wherever.
A Hobie, Old Town or other ocean-rated kayak, proper safety gear - good PFD and radio and wetsuit or dry suit, etc.
I would recommend a used proven kayak brand over a new kayak that isn't able to handle the ocean.
You can always post up what you are considering and you will get a lot of feedback on here.

Also using a good forecast app like Windy and how to understand it is important.
Wind, swell and tide conditions are everything.

If a seagull poops on you, statistically it was no accident.

Halftime welcome.  Get a yak.  May your first yak be perfect.  12.5 to 15ft.  All safety recommendations studied.  Know the weather and your abilities, get a freezer and geetum!   Go paddle in my opinion or pedal if you want...Start cheap and solid and make your wife happy.  No assumptions...Let's goooo.... :smt007 :smt006
