I’ve recently got into the hobby of 3d printing and have really enjoyed getting my reloading bench organized but now it’s time to move on to getting my kayak build completed. I found a bunch of already printed accessories from company’s but I’m looking for handy files that I can print for myself. So far I’ve found some hinges for a crate lid and some simple organizers but it looks like I’m going to have to design my own accessories which is half the fun. I’m still learning cad as I’ve had very little experience but I would love to hear some things people would be interested in and maybe I can get them built and tested. Bring on your ideas folks!

I got into 3d printing a little while ago too.  Super cool to make a handy little gadget or some easy toys for the kids.  Filament is available in literally any color you could ever want, and it isn't too expensive.

For fishing, so far I've made hook keepers for my ugly stik rods that don't come with them, some sabiki holders, and a few lures.  I haven't used the lures much yet - still sorting out paint and whatnot.  Acrylic craft paint doesn't do well with lake water, haha.

For the kayak, I've got a few ideas.  I am planning to make a bracket for a rod holder to mount to gear track - intend to place it forward of my pedal drive to place my rod while unhooking a fish or tying a new rig. A sun shield for the fishfinder is a common 3d print.   I'm also planning to make some sort of organizer for my cockpit - hold pliers, line cutter, etc.

Thingiverse has a TON of designs for just about anything you can imagine.

I'm interested in learning this stuff as well, as I've had lots of ideas over the years that if I knew how to 3d print a solution would have been much better than what I came up with.  :smt044 A crate lid and hinges would be awesome, as only yakattack sells something similar and for me it's too expensive. If I could make things that fit into a Scotty Mount, that would be pretty awesome too!

I've been thinking about mounting solutions also - I'm sure there are existing Scotty mount "post" attachments that can be manipulated. What did you have in mind?

I work in a 3D print lab and run two Projet 7000s, a Formlabs Form3, Form3BL, and a Form 4. I also have access to an HP MJF 4200 and two Objet Connex printers.

If anybody needs anything printed you can send me an .stl file and I'll hook you up.

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

When I went to Monterey two weeks ago there were a bunch of vendors selling simple 3D printed dragons and stuff for anywhere from $15 - $45. The models were simple, mostly no support needed, designs that were printed on a desktop FDM printer.

Dang, this is awesome! I'm just getting into this as a hobby - been learning a lot over the past few months.  Probably makes a pretty awesome business, seems like there are some good folks in the industry, and seems like demand is pretty high for certain applications.

This is funny - my son has been selling small models at school for a buck or two. I should tell him raise his prices, haha.

Hi Everyone,
yes the 3d printing of kayak stuff and fishing stuff is awsome..... I can't even remember all the stuff I have printed for my yak or for fishing..... lots but too many to count.....

trolling motor mounts, rudder control steering box, bigger rudder attachment, visor for my fishfinder, scotty mounts.

My current design product will be the nuckle that goes into a scotty mount with a horizonal adjustment.... as when trolling my rods are either to wide or two narrow off the sides of my yak and need a way to adust the splines so I can get the angle just right..... both tips in view straight ahead.   I guess I could do this with a track mouted scotty adapter as it can spin but i would like to design something a little more elegant and stronger as those adapters dont seem strong enough to me.

We ought to list all of our designs to be shared.

Troy

There’s even Scotty base files you can print. I’ve got a couple I printed for my Jon boat and they’ve been great.

My print last night was a yakattack lever lock style anchor trolley system and so far I don’t think I’ll have any issue with it not holding up. Generally I don’t anchor I just use it for my drift sock or stakeout pole in the odd chance I need it. Best stakeout pole I’ve found is 3 4’ pieces of heavy wall carbon fiber tube I found online and the right size couplers that I got from the same supplier. I carry everything in my front hatch in an old tent pole bag and it works perfect and it might weigh a pound so it just lives in there. It’s came in handy as a push pole a time or two when it was to shallow to run my pdl too.

Yeah, I need to print a few of those for my little boat too. It currently has the cheapo bass pro rod holders, which leave a lot to be desired... Would be pretty easy to put Scotty bases in the same spot so I can use my good rod holders.

I got the lever lock style anchor trolley printed and overall it’s alright but there’s room for improvement in the design. Tolerances are a little loose but it’s functional.

Those blocks look nice and would be useful on an AI. Do you expect them to be reasonably UV-resistant?

Yea the filament I used it designed for hard/outdoor use. I expect the pulley to wear out before the Uv can do any noticable damage. My seat risers have been holding up fine I printed with a less quality filament but they aren’t quite as exposed as the blocks are going to be.
