Monterey - Winter Halibut?

Thinking about heading out in Monterey Friday the 31st or Sat the 1st to try for some winter Halibut. Anyone interested in joining?

I'm planning on being there tomorrow, Thursday. From Coast Guard Pier.
I'll bring the dab rig to avoid the skunk. Gonna be a bit cold.

Ugh...my Friday morning got filled up with meetings. I may still try and get out there but it wouldn't be until ~ noon. Hope to see some of you out there if I make it!

Lots of action but no halibut for me today.
I was all alone out there until afternoon when a few others showed up.
Fished 80' to 180'. Couldn't get bait in the AM so used frozen sardine and macks from a couple weeks ago.
Once past the buoy quickly got a 23" ling, then hooked a large shark with an epic 10 minute battle before it cut off near the yak. Never saw it but seemed bigger than my 4.5' one from before. Then thought for sure I had a halibut - soft bite, dead wait head shakes, short runs but it was about a 27" ling that had the treble down in the gill rakers. Caught several dabs 6"-9", and two were tug-a-wars with sharks - I call them ABC dabs. Also descended a nice brown. Made more bait on the way back but only had one good takedown that felt like a smallish ling.

Thanks for the Halibut scouting report Joe.  They are out there and hungry  . Just a matter of time.

Was to get out before the weather hits this weekend. At least you had some action - too bad season is closed for lings!

ABC Dabs were tasty. Wondering if shark saliva has any special health benefits.
Now with Lithium! (from the Moss Landing fire) - could be mood leveling.

Great and entertaining report Joe  Already been chomped dabs, priceless!  I have caught very few sharks, and am wondering if they are more active in the winter?
