Hello NorCal

Crux here.  I registered here because my son Lake (12) and I have been doing some fishing lately (rock fish) from shore and he saw some guys fishing from kayaks and was interested.  He caught a nice Cabezon from the Point Arena pier a couple weeks ago and was totally into cleaning cooking etc.  We pan fried it and he thought it was great.  He actually said "dad this is really good for white meat" which made me laugh.

I have done some fishing on and off over the years.  Got into fly fishing for a stint.  Other than learning to paddle whitewater rafts as a teen I have no kayak experience.

I borrowed a tandem sit on top kayak from a friend and took Lake to a local water body yesterday (lake Solano) and did some paddling and self rescue (climbing back on etc.) and had a blast.  Not sure where this is all going but I joined here to learn about kayaks and fishing so that I can continue to expose him to the outdoors.  Thanks in advance.

Welcome to NCKA! Cruxarche! That's quite a great outing catching and eating a Cabbie from shore! Bet that will be with your son for a long time!  There is a wealth of information on this site, but feel free to ask whatever is on your mind or browse through some topics for fun.  Glad to have you on board!
