Had my knee replaced on Nov. 8th last year.  Surgery went fine and recovery is going well. I am currently up to walking a little over 2 miles now.  As paddling weather here is not that great that now, I think it was a good time to get it done.  If you are sitting on the fence of getting it done here is some thoughts on it: I took 8 weeks off from work, and I think I needed pretty much all of that time.  I am a 60-year-old guy and depending on your level of fitness this may be to much or too little for some of you.  I decided to go with it after I went through three rounds of shots (1st cortisone lasted about 12 weeks, 2nd was a "lubricating shot" which did nothing for me, but I had to wait 12 weeks before I could try another round of cortisone, which also did nothing). After going through this my Surgeon was good with the surgery. The first four weeks were rough, as you have to sleep on your back (I am a slide sleeper) and could never get comfortable. I didn't get a full night sleep until after 4 weeks.

Somethings to keep in mind: you will feel numbness on both the inside and outside of your knee, your knee will click a lot when you walk (I have been told this this will go away after a year.
Am I glad I did it?  Yes, I am, for the last two years hiking, fishing and anything outdoors was being hampered. Two miles is about 1`.5 miles more than what I could walk this time last year.  If you have questions feel free to hit me up!

Thanks for posting. My knee still does hiking and cycling pretty well but has limited me in several ways, so it is helpful to hear what knee replacement is like.

It was somethign that had to be done, do it earlier rather than later.

Thank you for sharing your information.  As I am around your age, I have had minor issues with my knee for over 10 years, especially after a hard day of snowboarding.  I have been taking glucosamine and wearing elastic knee braces to help my knee also I don't ride as hard as before.  I am sure my time will come for the knee replacement.
