Angler Of The Year 2024 is a wrap.

Congratulations to JoeDubC on a great first place finish! Joe certainly put in a lot of work this year for that first place finish. Joe entered 28 scorable fish of 13 different species for a point total of 1684.0.
Joe I have your championship belt waiting for you!

A very close second place went to tommcdo. Tom entered 20 scorable fish of 10 different species for a point total of 1682.4375.

That’s less than 2 points separating first and second place!

Two other anglers were able to get 10 fish entered as well. Great job Pasha and that other guy! 10 species entered requires a lot of effort and knowledge.

Rounding out the top 10
JoeDubC – 1684.0
Tommcdo – 1682.4375
Threemoneyj – 1681.0625
Pasha – 1414.4375
Poopsmith – 1350.125
Corey – 1214.3125
The Kraken – 1118.1875
Speedystein – 1070.375
Jewli0n – 1060.0
Ghost – 953.0625

For 2024 we had 227 scorable entries covering 18 of the allowable 21 species.
Nobody was able to enter a sturgeon, steelhead, or white sea bass.
Only 1 pacific halibut was entered (great catch poopsmith), 2 surf perch entered, and 2 lake trout.

Big points fish 200+ points
Huge shout out to these 3 anglers for landing fish worth 200 or more points!
Sailfish: California Halibut 50”/250points!
Corey: Kokanee 19”/209points!
JJQ: California Halibut 40”/200points!

Great effort for everyone who entered fish. We will hopefully have 2025 up and running soon!
-John

Thanks to everyone that makes this possible. I did have to put in a lot more days to compete with the better fishermen. And though I started the year strong, I kind of wilted in the final quarter and both John (4 nice species in 1 day!) and Tom passed me. I was about 15 pts back. I was planning on going deep in Carmel for a 23" Bocaccio, but I wasn't sure about the conditions so switched to Monterey for halibut and sand dabs. Catching that PB halibut on the sand dab rig was a total (literal and figurative) fluke.
But with two weeks left, that was like being up 1 pt in basketball so I needed to pad the lead. I tried for an upgrade crappie at clear lake (catching a nice 28.5" no-count catfish instead) and then for pile or other perch over 12" in Richmond. Failing at those two was like missing a wide open 3 and giving the ball back to the other team with 8 seconds left on the clock. I kind of felt like maybe I deserved to lose at that point.  Luckily the other guys didn't score.

Congrats Joe! You definitely put in the work this year, as evidenced by your fishing log.  What a finish too - just a few points separating the top three, and several others within a one good fishing day striking distance. Great work! I'm looking forward to the 2025 season - I've got some ambitions and ideas brewing!

Congratulations Joe! You nailed it just at the right time. I thought I’d finally get a win this year but I couldn’t get the upgrade I needed to squeeze past you. Time for all of us to start it all over again. Looking forward to seeing everyone on the water.
