Hi All,

Went to Monterey yesterday, tried for squid for 1hr. Saw some bait balls near the red buoy at 100ft deep but no squid bites. Most likely other types of bait. We spread out as well to find the squid but nothing. I believe it's done for the year.

Lots of coppers caught, at least 10 between 3 people.
Met Patrice and Sunny from NCKA, pretty nice to see some other NCKA members yesterday.

Thanks for the report.

Those coppers sure do feel abundant some trips…

I agree about the abundant coppers. Where are they reduced enough that the restriction came about?

I am hoping to get out to Monterey Black Friday to get one last nearshore rockfishing trip before it closes.
Always on the prowl in my PA14, except for most days. Then I have to settle for dreaming.

Good luck and please let us know how you do. I’m planning on being there Saturday for one last time as well.

The squid are always around just not in the numbers or that high up in the water column like the spring/summer. Winter I’ve only seen it on the bottom. But don’t listen to me I only live near Monterey and fish that area 50+ times a year and definitely haven’t caught squid in every month of the year 🤣. Me and some friends grabbed around 40 this morning for bait on the inside of the red can in 100-120.
