Hey all, planning a Fish n chill at Bullards Bar, Dark Day Camp/Launch the weekend of May 9-11th, 2025

Similar setup to last year, same target (MONSTER 10-12" Kokes), the lake also hold some bass and trout...so you might be able to check off 3 fish on your AOTY list!

We'll base out of the Dark Day Campground and Dark Day boat launch.  Friday afternoon pre-fish, and should be some campfires and barley pops to be had.  Saturday morning fishing, Saturday afternoon we'll have a pot luck.  Plug-n-jug will be organizing our friendly competition again (Photo based, so keep or release as you like) $10 donation, 100% payout

For those not familiar with Bullards, it’s a super nice place to go fishing.  If you go on a weekday, you'll have the lake to yourself…and be listening for any unwanted banjos.  Come on a weekend, especially in the summer, and you'll need to share the lake with a few folks.  Spring can be gorgeous up there, you get the early morning crisp air of the mountains, the unmistakable smell of pine in the air, and generally a lot of -----quiet---- which is nice.  The Kokes tend to be easy to find, but can hide on some days, they are small, with a limit of ten.  They cook very nicely whole, or just slice them in half, and pull the bones out after cooking.  Personally, I prefer the small BB Kokes to the larger kokes in Fallen Leaf Lake - I cannot yet compare them to the larger cokes over at Whiskeytown.

Camping spaces are limited so get one now if you want to join, and ideally plan to share it with another NCKA camper.
If you're not up for the camping - just join for the day - it a lovely lake and a nice drive.

Agenda
   - Friday 5/9 pre-fish and/or arrive
      ○ Friday evening, walk campfire to campfire, chatting
   - Saturday 5/10
      ○ AM Fish (comp from 7am to noon)
      ○ Afternoon: Biggest Fish comp picture turn in
      ○ 5 PM Pot luck

hope to see you all out there,
Brian.

Hi Al,

The reservation system is 6 months out.  Reservations opened today for Thursday - I reserved 4T (the triple we both parked in last year - along with Plug-n-jug etc.) again Th-Sun.  Tomorrow morning at 7am reservations will open for Friday the 9th.

Thanks for the reminder Brian! I grabbed 7 for Thurs-Sunday. It’s going to be another great get together!

Might want to change the title to 2025 instead of 2024  :smt002

Just grabbed site 6 for 5/9-5/11.

I’ll be with my partner who also kayak fishes, but doesn’t need to compete if that’s an NCKA-only thing.
What we really want are kokes for the freezer.

We’ll bring something yummy for the potluck.
Excited for this!

Pasha, your partner is welcome to join the tournament. It's just for fun and bragging rights. The more the merrier.

I was finally able to reserve a spot using my phone instead of my computer.
I've got 2D. It will fit another vehicle and tent if someone wants to split it.

Only 6 weeks to the third annual - I can not wait! will be a great time.

I was out on the lake last weekend (Kevin, Ken, Others were there as well), the weather was amazing, cool in the morning, warm in the afternoon.

Friday night we'll plan a big fire/happy hour
Saturday Morning will be the Fishing tournament (Kevin's in charge or the pot, but something like biggest fish, biggest stringer etc. - photo based, so you can catch and release or catch and eat - your choice)  all regs apply of course.
Saturday night will be the Pot Luck (always amazing) - go ahead and respond here - or PM me if there is something in particular you'd like to bring, I'll get a list going and modify it in the lead post.  I will probably do my grilled veggies again - seemed popular last year, though the buffalo wings at the inaugural were pretty good too.

also, anyone who'd like to stay in 4T with us, let me know, Plenty of room for tents! I think last year we had two trailers (ours and Als) and Kevin and crew had a number of tents out there.

The gates were still locked last weekend, so I was not able to check on the condition of the campground.

See ya,
Brian.

You guys have a good time. I cannot make it due to Mother's day weekend. There is a 16 plus inch koke in there which I safely released a couple of weeks ago  :smt044 :smt044  Whoever catches it will definitely be a winner.
