Hey all,

I grew up in Monterey and currently split my time between Monterey and San Diego.  I love fishing for everything from trout to bluefin. The rock fishing is all but tapped out in southern California so when I'm in Monterey I will try to catch as many rockfish as I'm able to so I can balance out the freezer.

My usual spot is to launch the kayak is out of San Carlos Beach since that's closest for me but I really want to start exploring the area near Stillwater Cove and Cypress point.  If anyone wants to meetup to fish around the peninsula in November I should be around for most of the month to take advantage of the shallow water rockfishing (more fun in my opinion). I really enjoy using lighter setups and a variety of jigs to catch bottom fish but would love to hear other setups and strategies.

Letting you all know now that I'm rocking a big old tandem kayak to do my fishing so if you have a pedal drive, you might be spending some time waiting for me to catch up haha

Cheers!

I've been wanting to fish down your way. Surf there a bit but never fished. I too, am paddling an old tandem. :)

Yeah it's a lot of fun fishing around the peninsula.  You can find schools of decent sized blues and olives hanging out in the top/middle of the column.  Good chance at lings and cabs plus the random bonus species of rockfish if you're fishing the bottom.

Wanted to ask how you balance out your tandem since mines always tilted towards the back.  Do you put any weights on the front end?

The Malibu Two has a seating option for solo. I really like it and it tracks ok. Super stable. It just really sucks (bad drift/tracking) in the wind. All I really want is a FF but I sort of like having the play detective so I don't order one.
