Stripers are starting to pour into the lower delta. Glide baits around the tule and current breaks are kicking out some fish. Lots of weeds making trolling difficult. There is a deep hole at the mouth of the sac down that is a favorite for jigging in the fall for small stripers. The stripers will push up with the cooler weather, but I would focus on the lower sac and big break or even make Franks tract if want to do the San Joaquin side.

The delta is a huge, diverse, wild place. Many micro-ecosystems that hold many different species.

What kid of fish are hoping to target, and roughly where?

Was looking mainly for bass but stripes would be a bonus. I'm in Stockton I was looking at hitting 8 mile rd. I drove out there today and it didn't look bad

Yep, that's bass country up there for sure.  I follow Steve Cooper "In Deep on the Delta" on YouTube - he has a lot of great advice and weekly reports for bass fishing in the delta. His videos will point you in the right direction for lures and tactics.

I don't really go up there - bit of a drive for me. Be careful of the bass and ski boats - they don't care about kayakers AT ALL.

I do a bit of striper fishing down in the lower delta, mostly Sherman Island area and Benicia.  Lots of trolling - it is by far my most successful technique for stripers.

Good luck, let us know what you end up planning!

Can launch out of King Island and there is plenty of good water right there on White slough within paddling distance.

I'll be fishing this weekend just upstream from the Virgin Sturgeon  :smt044 :smt044.  While that's probably lower sac(?) I'll hope to provide some kind of catching report after

In all fairness to bass and ski boats…….they generally don’t care about ANYBODY at all lol, it’s not just kayakers.  And I will say, wake surfers are the new jet skiers.  The flippin wakes off those damn things are 4’ tall and closely spaced, they always seem to be right in the middle of the heaviest traveled areas and they fall all the damn time…..annoying.

Not sure about the Stockton side but there’s been metric tonnage of fry all over the central delta this summer.  If you throw a Megabass Ito Vision 110 in any kind of a silver baitfish pattern it is a guarantee.  And the obligatory 6” wacky senko in watermelon red flake or black with blue flake

Learning to fish the tides is the tricky part.  On a high, they’ll move up in all the obvious shore based cover (tules, wood, rocks) and ambush prey in the trough between the cover and the submerged vegetation. On a low they’ll generally move to the outsides of the submerged weed lines.   Current is king, always look for moving water.  Take advantage of lowlight to do some topwater fishing.  When the sun comes up, fish with the sun in your face…..mostly west facing banks, they’ll be nice shade pockets and shade lines that gosh will still use to ambush.  Don’t fish anywhere that just got carpet bombed with the weed killer chemicals.
..........agarcia is just an ex-kayaker

Word, those wake surf boats do make a pretty big wake.

I just generally give the warning for the delta because pretty much everything with an engine whips around at mach Jesus, and a lot of those sloughs are pretty narrow. No where to escape, haha.
