Heading up to a buddy's place in Truckee  for the weekend, thinking of an early morning Mackinaw hunt in Carnelian Bay either East along the 50' drop off or South west towards Dollar Point on the ledges deep trolling or jigging.

Anyone fish this area with any recent reports or or have any tips to share, already did much "research" on YouTube.

I suspect I need to fish early morning or evening and/or deep to make this happen. Might change venue or target species dependent on conditions.

I would join you - I’ve never fished Tahoe - but I’m headed to SD next weekend. I’m gonna try a few hours on a rental yak at La Jolla.

So storm moved in for Saturday ended up taking the long road to Truckee up 49 on Friday, figured I'd have a quick visit with my friend in Sierra City and scope out this Bullards Bar spot. Timing wasn't great arriving mid day and trying out gear I've never used for a species I've never targeted......Kokanee.

Running a long noodle rod, conventional line counter reel and 10# mono I trolled an unbaited wedding ring (missed picking up corn in Yuba City) behind a dodger with a 3oz clip on weight at .8 to 1.2 knots 80' to 100' deep for about 4 hours. Surface temperature was just about 78° but I had hoped the incoming storm and clouds would still make it happen.

However no fish were harmed in the making of this report.

Back at the launch a little after 4 powerboater heading out to fish said waning moon, zooplankton not active certain times and that the good bite was around 7:30 that morning.
Storm changed Saturdays plan but learned a lot about a different kind of gear and figure I'm just going to have to tag along with some of you Kokanee guys at some point when it cools down.

The rest of the drive to Truckee was very scenic and no traffic!  :smt001

Looks like fun, regardless of the uncooperative kokes.

Tsuri, Don't get discouraged. Bullards Bar can be tough fishing this time of year. They are starting to stack up, head up the Yuba River arm and are 100+ feet deep. If you're looking for a little redemption, a few of us are headed to Sly Creek this Saturday. The fishing there is far superior than BB in both size and quality. Much more kayak friendly lake too. Hardly any boat traffic or lake lice.

Thanks everyone for the positivity, I'm often reluctant to post fishing reports with no fish but many of the "no fish" fishing reports I've read have been helpful to me so sharing the skunk.  :smt006

Hey Sledge great to see you so active again on NCKA and your right the pines and clean air were smelling extra good. Also thanks for the Spilt Milt recommendations, been watching a bunch of dudes videos.

Right on Kevin good information, you're for sure one of those Kokanee guys I want to tag along with and Sly Creek does sound like a step up despite the extra driving time.

Sadly this weekend is my wife's birthday and I may have other obligations....then again she might prefer if I went out of town?  :smt003

Looking forward to continue to figure out how to angle these tricky little Salmon.

Looks like a great day out there, even if the fish weren't cooperating.

Kevin is definitely the Kokanee Ninja - he knows the secrets to unravel the kokanee universe, haha.

Thank’s for the report. I have been wanting to give Kokanee another try. I did well with Kevin as a guide, and again on my own both times at Sly Creek. It looks like I can head up to Sly Creek this Saturday.
