Fishing was good if you put in the work.
Fishing with some OG I haven't seen in a couple seasons was fantastic..
First day went South for some decent  Lings and big Verms and Canary. Wind came from the North.
Next day calm seas and ran the Gap heading North thinking any wind would help me back to Albion.
Lings on the first two drops and a steady train of Rockfish after.
Made it North 2/3rds to Van Damm. Solid Action and landed two bigger 28 29 inch Lings in quick order. Last Ling did a Tornado  in the net. Had to disconnect the line and untwisted her to get her on the clip. Weather was coming up and drift Northward was heavy everytime I stopped to catch a fish. Knew I had to head back in..
Squall came in from the South ! Really heavy wind chop, but fortunately the swell was low.
10 or 15 minutes in I looked down and ---where's my Rod !
It wasn't  worth the risk turning back to search  for it.
Momma didn't raise a total idiot.
It was a long long long peddle back. Went closer to shore for some wind blockage and a few moments easier peddling behind some of the large seamounts.
It was a good  reminder of why I'm sometimes that annoying older guy  who says you should at least consider getting a minimum 3MM Farmer John  wetsuit before you go out fishing next time.  Saw two set of kayakers go out fishing in just shorts and T-shirts, while at Albion.

Miracle of the day.  Was telling Ghost how  I lost the Rod and Mike (who is probably not NCKA?) Said I found a Rod /Reel just like that.
Thank you Mike !!!
It was a favorite  kayak specific  Rod I bought from Naoki  years ago.
Again I was reminded of when I lost my Mirage drive in a surf launch on Carmel Beach.  Someone on this site found it and returned it.
There are some good people out there

Good fishing out there! It was cool seeing a fellow NCKAer out at Albion when I went out on a whim last minute. I waited just outside the cove till about 9am thinking I might see you head out before I decided to head north. Fishing was good for me with a couple lings and rockfish. First time I traveled north instead of south. Marked a couple boilers that could cause trouble if not cautious then found myself less than a mile to van Damme. Didn’t realize it was relatively close. At about 11 I could tell the chop increasing so started to slowly make my way back. Also note, Albion campgrounds said they no longer allow camping in the overflow without any hookups so I had to pay for the more expensive spot. Glad you got your rod back!
