Camping with the family next week.  We're going to Caspar.  Any recommendations on where to fish?  I'm by myself so any advice on easy launch sites is appreciated.  Company welcome.

Launch at Caspar Beach... The cove is awesome.  Rock formations / caves on the north side of the cove are cool...

When I was there a couple years ago, it was one big ling after another while fishing toward the mouth of the cove... I recall ~70 - 80 ft depths in spots.  Great spot!

If the surf's up... VanDamme might be a good protected launch.

Thanks Erik.

Sean - Let's fish Sunday.  I'm not getting in until Sat. afternoon.  We're leaving Monday, but doubt I'll have time to fish.

I'll PM you toward the end of the week.

BTW - we're staying at Casper Beach RV Park.

How long of a drive you guys think that is from sac?  I might try caspar some weekend since I drive 3 or 3 1/2 hours to get to salt point anyways.  Mapquest says 3 hours 45 minutes.

Kevin-Sunday is perfect.  Jr has a soccer tourney on Sat.  We were there yesterday taking pics for our site and I met a nice guy there that had 2 lings, and real nice cabby, and a bag of blacks.  It is the easiest launch ever.

Travis - I've never been there, but Y! Maps says it is ~4hrs from San Jose.  I'm just not sure how accurate the maps are for windy roads like highway 1.

Join us if you can.  Should be a good time.

i got my butt kicked there a few years ago. my ab diving friend and i launched in the salmon river and paddled towards the ocean, it was beautiful, nice scenery, outgoing tide, then we saw the surf! i bailed out and floundered through the surf to the beach. matt pressed on until he was crushed by the waves. eventually he washed up, but he lost he spear gun, what a mess we were.  we went to van damme after that.

Significant surf at Caspar is very rare.  I was there on sunday and the surfers were out in force.  I paddled out in a 12' Cobra Navigator no problem.  Chris just played in the surf!  I took this pic...by Caspar standards this is big...

Right on, just wanted to make sure.  I'll try to be there as early as I can.  I might just get up in the middle of the night and head up there.  Usually can't sleep much the night before fishing anyways.
