The forecast keeps changing, but right now (using Windy App) I see a westerly wind between 1.7 and 6.6 kts with gusts up to 9kts.  Swell around 3ft.  Wave power under 50kJ until 2pm when it kicks up to 307kJ.

I plan to leave Pillar Point around 8am (incoming tide, high tide 11am + 4ft), slack/low tide@ 3pm and a +6.4ft high at 9.15pm, but I expect to head back in around 3pm.

Am I correct in thinking these sound like pretty good conditions, e.g. the moderate swings in tide will not be too problematic as I enter and leave the harbor?

Happy to hear any other advice!

PS - yes I read about the shark :-)

I think you got it right, Saturdays conditions look really good at the moment. Be sure to check again the night before you go and also you can check the NOAA Marine Point Forecast for HMB as well.

https://marine.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=37.65&lon=-122.36

This tends to show more of of a pessimistic view of the conditions compared to Windy. I like to check them both sometimes they don't agree on what the future will bring.

Have fun and post a report if you go!

Not the best trip, peddle came off and damaged the thread on the bolt / crank just as I got out side the jaws.  Still got to the green can but as I was limited to the paddle did not feel confident staying out and my mind was not really on the fishing. Didn’t help that a struggled to pull up much bait.

Sorry to hear about the  Mirrage drive problem but you made the right call to go back early.

I'm a big fan of keep it simple, paddle kayaks don't have those sorts of issues although you can still forget you paddle. Doesn't sound fun but thanks for the report!  :smt006

How were the conditions?
