Eddie and I have been discussing heading to Fort Ross for some time.  Finally, we have a good weather forecast and plan to chase some lings and rockfish on Monday.  Other members are welcome to join.  We plan to arrive around 7 AM.

I have attached parking and weather information.

Hi Logan
It would be best if you had a beach wheel to launch and pay for $10 parking using an envelope.  After unloading your kayak, you have to park at the parking lot and hike down.
If you have any questions, please let me know.

As I was driving toward FR, I checked the ocean condition, and it was a lake. Met Logan, Eddie, and Eddie #2.  We launched close to 8 AM and headed to my go-to spots.  The first spot was slow, I had one 28" ling but it jumped off from my net.  We moved to the second sport, and I got several ling bites from the start.  Brown rockfish were huge.  At the end of the day, I got a limit of lings and rockfish (Browen, Copper, China, Canary).  Got 20+" yellow eye and released using a descender.

As Eddie and I were heading toward the landing spot, CDFW boated approached and checked our fish and licenses.  They were very friendly, and we chatted for several minutes.  They informed us that they issued a citation to a boater without a descending device today.

Thanks for the report.

A friend got a verbal about a having a descender but wasn't readily available, meaning not attached to a rod.
I don't recall anything in writing saying that we need to have a dedicated rod for descending purpose.

This is the exact wording and needs to be available for immediate use.

No person shall take or possess any federal groundfish as defined in Section 1.91 and all greenlings of the genus Hexagrammos from any boat or other
floating device in ocean waters without having a descending device in possession and available for immediate use to assist in releasing rockfish to the
depth of capture (§27.20(b)(1)(D)(2)).

Thanks for the fort hookup! I ended day with rockfish limit and 1 small ling. Lots of small lines released. I eventually finally got a big mama on hard heavy bendo and bulldogging runs. Then it turned out to be a plump china :smt005.. most likely a hitchhiker that came off. Also got to try out the descender on a fatty yelloweye.  :smt006
