Very cool Moo!  I used to do a lot of road and trail riding all over Oakland and the East Bay, and always wanted to do a trip like this.  My kids are probably big enough to tag along now, would be super fun.

For the flat - a lot of folks will tell you to go tubeless, but to me it isn't worth the effort and expense if you don't ride often.  I put Stan's tubeless sealant in the tubes of all of our non-tubeless bikes.  It works a charm - no flats, no mess, very easy to do.

Thanks. You can put Stan's Tubeless Sealant in the tube? I have to try this. Thanks for the info. I've used Slime before and it was a disappointment.

Yep, you just need tubes with removable valves.  Regular Schraeder valves (like a car has) should all have this, and many Presta (bicycle specific) valves do too.  Stan's makes a syringe tool to inject into the valve stem.  Pull the valve, inject the Stan's, put the valve back in, and pump it back up.  The Stan's sealant works WAY better than the Slime stuff.  I've had good luck with Orange Seal too - I think pretty much any of the latex based tubeless sealants would work.

Awesome bikepacking! Now you have an excuse to pick up a packraft/inflatable kayak right? I don't know whether that's the best or worst of both worlds though.

I'm impressed with the mileage you got out of that ebike! I know you were being conservative with the battery but still, 60+mi on a charge is great, and you really loaded the heck out of that thing. I got a good laugh when you pulled out the jump pack/inflator/accessory charger.

Tubeless can be great, especially for offroad where it allows for lower pressures and higher traction without worrying about pinch-flats. On the flip side it can get pretty messy, especially if the rims or tires aren't meant for tubeless and you've (I've) decided to just keep adding gorilla tape until it seals.

Anyway thanks for sharing! It's been a great reminder why I bought as many pack-rods as I have.

Haha, yep, been there!  Gotta love gorilla tape! Air compressor helps a lot too, especially in a hot East Bay garage.

I bought slime tubes last time.   No flats yet, but have not ridden much lately.
