Another Great Way to go Camping

This is not kayak related but I had so much fun and I just want to share it. I was always a  big fan of backpacking and MotoCamping, which I like to call MotorcyclePacking, but I’m not a huge fan of car camping (where you drive to a campsite) even though I enjoy it. I went kayakpacking three times last year and I found that kayakpacking is more fun than backpacking or MotoCamping. Recently, after contemplating for 15 years, I finally tried bikepacking with an ebike I recently got and it was a lot of fun. I wouldn’t say it is as fun as kayakpacking, mainly because I don’t have a kayak to fish on, but it’s definitely a different kind of fun. I rode my ebike just over 30 miles to Rancho Seco Lake for an overnight bikepacking. Did some shore fishing for ditch pickles when I got there then set up camp and ate pan fried halibut with rice. Then, I rode back home after cooking and eating breakfast the next morning. This was kind of a test run to see how I like it and I like it a lot. I plan to go to somewhat more remote areas in the future. If you are a bikepacking enthusiast and pass down some wisdom, have any suggestions or would like some company,  please let me know. Cool to see you on here Moomoo, I’m a big fan of your youtube channel, been following you for a while. I enjoy motocamping around Tahoe as well but haven’t been in a while. I hope to kayak pack in Tomales bay later this year.

watched it last night, very cool. Bike hiking is a blast.  Continental sell some excellent tires for bike hiking - very flat resilient, pricy...but major reduction in road side flat repairs.

I half expected you to pull an inflatable kayak from that huge dry bag you had.

Looked like good times minus the flat. I just started my adventure with truck camping and look forward to some great journeys.

No tips but start getting into bike packing/camping as well.  Great video.  Thanks for sharing.

Very cool trip. I've done some longer bike packing trips (250-375 miles) but they always start with a long car trip (e.g. Oregon, Death Valley) and primarily on gravel roads with few cars. But haven't done any since COVID happened - need to dust off the bikes and the gear and get out again. www.bikepacking.com is a great place to dig as far into bikepacking as you would ever want.

Thanks for the inspiration Moo!  I saw another creator do it and it inspired me to buy an E-bike, and I still haven't done it.  . I also like the kayak camping, and have planned and cancelled three trips this year due to conflicts.  I'm going to try and do an over nighter at Lake don pedro when I have a free weekend.

When I graduated College I took a trip to Europe with a bike and my brother. I biked (or used the train, we weren't strict) from Trondheim, Norway and ended at Brittany, France (we did take the ferry from Oslo to Denmark). We camped where we stopped and just kind of went for it. I had a Garmin GPS and found the OpenMBT maps and got them loaded on it and we just followed that. Very little planning, it was a total blast. But that is the last time I did bike camping, so many years ago. I would love to start up again, but now I got 2 kids. Need to find easy trips that they are capable of.

Rancho Seco lake is the old cooling pond for the nuclear reactors. Hard to believe, but when it was operational it was a popular place to swim because the water was so warm, and the bass grew huge too.

That's amazing. I was inspired from bicycle touring YouTuber who was riding in Europe. I probably won't we in Europe but I think it would be awesome if I can make it down to SoCal. I tried to talk my wife and my son into bikepacking but they are not having it  So I never got started before.

I never went there before because I thought it was kind of ghetto from google maps but it's actually not bad.

Very cool Moo!  I used to do a lot of road and trail riding all over Oakland and the East Bay, and always wanted to do a trip like this.  My kids are probably big enough to tag along now, would be super fun. 

For the flat - a lot of folks will tell you to go tubeless, but to me it isn't worth the effort and expense if you don't ride often.  I put Stan's tubeless sealant in the tubes of all of our non-tubeless bikes.  It works a charm - no flats, no mess, very easy to do.

I just got one too! Rode it once for 50 feet so far
