I'm sure this has been discussed before but I couldn't find it using the search function.

I know about the Santa Cruz harbor, Santa Cruz wharf and the Capitola beach on the right hand side of the wharf. I've heard that it is not legal to launch a kayak on many beaches in Santa Cruz County. Anywhere else that people know as being legal launch sites?

Thanks,

New Brighton, Rio Del Mar, 4 Mile (long walk).  Check Brendan's recent posts, I think he launches from 26th.

FF, You can check with the folks at Kayak Connection, they used to have a great little handout that showed all the legal launch sites. Basically all beaches within the city limits (except those you have noted) are closed to kayak launches (but all allow surfboards :smt012). Once you are beyond the city limits County & State beaches are OK, as long as it is not posted closed to kayaks. Up here it is the surf we need to contend with.

Thanks for the info guys. Kayak Connection is practically down the street. I'll go down there on my next break.

You can launch off the wharf, just need to get past the sea lions lounging on the public landing dock.
