Yes, I've been watching that one closely too. That is amazing sailing on a TI. Just from the track, you can tell when she's had headwinds, as her tacking has been brilliant.

Yeah, this lady is genius,  she is a TI real racer. other than that, the Canada navy team also is surprisingly, their boat is heavy looks stupid old wood made, and they also looks not everyday exercise soldier, someone even fat, first day I followed them for a while, they even not paddling, they cooking, eating, laughing, joking, just open the diy sail and controlling the direction, sometime left sometime right, some time center sometime followed the bottom of the mountain, you know what, their boat is much faster than mine. Should something inside

Ok I’m hooked now. The write ups are awesome and their IG is beautiful. It’s great to see some of the people and vessels that are in the write ups.

Good luck, Mr. X!!

Very cool video.

Towards the front of the race, Team Brio is currently 5th, and it looks like they are trying a radical shortcut. It'll be interesting to see if that pays off.

It looks like Mr X sailed through some of the night and is approaching the checkpoint at the narrows. He's ahead of 3 others. Lots of other boats are working the narrows. The leaders are all multi-crew.

Seymour Narrows is gonna be tough, heading straight into the wind, something Hobie adventure island not good at.  A jib could come in handy.

He is heading into the wind, but the winds look to be very light for the next several days. Hopefully, he can use the current to his advantage.

In the video linked above he's running some kind of genoa.

That's the Hobie spinnaker for the AI (it's a bit smaller than the one that is designed for the TI). It's only useful downwind (or nearly so). Unfortunately, Hobie doesn't sell a jib for the TI/AI, but a lot of people have made custom versions.

If there are light headwinds, can he peddle, and maybe catch a few of the wind only vessels?

Barring a major mishap, it looks like the leading boat will easily finish today. Assuming that is the case, if I read the R2AK website correctly, the sweeper boat (the "Grim Sweeper") will launch on the 21st, and cover 75 miles/day, and once it passes a boat, that boat is required to exit the race.

So far, it looks like Mr. X is averaging about 40NM per day, which is very impressive. If he can continue to average 40NM per day, and all of that is made good towards the finish line (as opposed to, say, tacking back and forth for 40NM, which would result in less than 40NM of actual progress), by my calculation, he'll finish the race about 1 day ahead of the Grim Sweeper...

Don't fully believe weather forecast, this morning wind around 35-40 mph, now current reverse turn, so even wind stop, still not good

Mr. X continues to show his perseverance by ending the day late and starting it early.  The early bird is definitely getting the worm today as he makes good progress past sleepy contenders.  Go Mr. X!
