Finally got a Kayak Trailer

I'm getting to damn old to haul the sucker up on top of my camper or lift it up onto the roof of my car so I scored a used Malone Trailer.  It needed some TLC, the wiring was shot and only the drivers side turn/stop lamp worked. At least the tires were new.  Previous guy never bothered to register it or put the vin sticker on it.  Malone used the axle serial number to find the vin and when I sent them the bill of sae they sent me the vin, Certificate of origin and a bill of sale.  So after replacing all the wiring and installing new marker and passenger turn/stop light I got it registered and plated with the DMV.  I mounted a Thule Cargo box in the center of the cross bar nd Thule J racks on either side.  I can stow an lock all my gear in the box. so nice

Nice  . I like the kayak saddles setuo on the sides of the trailer.

Sweet setup!  I really like the cargo box idea. 

I used to have one mounted on rails above my truck bed - so I could carry the kayak in the bed and pretty much all of my gear in the box, locked.

nice setup! and you should get better fuel mileage too!

I know how you feel, I have a 1978 VW Van and it is very hard to get up on the rack, I just recently installer a winch motor and it is now so much easier, just depress the button and up she goes. It also helps lower the kayak down in a more controlled manner. I have been happy with the new setup, Ron.

I'm curious how it feels at highway speeds?  I'm also very much considering getting a trailer soon

It tracks perfectly.  The only thing i notice is that the leaf springs are stiff so you have to creep over speed bumps. Freeway speed it's really stable,

My trailer was stiff too. Any bump or pothole and it was all over the place. I removed one of the leaf springs and it runs really well now.

Suite .... (said the musician)    I'm only mildly jealous.   Every time I hoist the Outback up on the Prius I think about getting a trailer.  I certainly know why they call it an Out Back.  "Mildly jealous" might just be an understatement.
