I hit Del Valle today with some success, I manage to troll up 2 Trout and 1 small striper by the dam and on my way back at the narrows I got a great take down and several small bumps on my fly rod, I was dragging a striper fly trying to get the dust off for Mendo next week. Two other fellow NCKAers out there today also nice to have met you guys Dan (Dans964) and Bobby (152Sumo) sorry if I got your name wrong I had a brain fad :smt012.

Pat -

Sorry I missed you. Overslept and ended up launching at 830 with my wife right after Dan in his new P15. Stayed south of the narrows and managed a 13 inch trout and 3 stripers 12-17 inches. Practiced my fly casting but got no love on the clouser minnow. All of the stripers hit the Rapala SR5. Marked a lot of fish at 20-30 ft but didn't bring my downrigger since I wanted to work on my fly fishing. See  you at BAM.

My name is Ben.  No need to apologize.  Apologize for you catching fish and me getting skunked! I couldn't even get a bite at my favorite spot.  Maybe my luck will change in a couple weeks.

Pat

I picked up 2 stripers trolling, 1 just NW of the launch and 1 at the narrows. I worked the striper area NW of the launch fan casting with flies, swim baits and crankbaits for about and hour and hooked a 14 inch striper. My wifes arm was bothering her so we left at 1130. I did have a good size LMB jump a foot in the air about 3 ft from my yak.  :smt012 Next time I will bring some surface atttracters and poppers and target LMB. It is funny how the new BAM rules has really renewed my interest in fly fishing particularly for SB and LMB. BTW, the SA 300gr Streamer Express is a nice line and sinks fast but takes some time to learn how to cast. I have the one with a clear tip so it is hard to see the transition to the leader which made it difficult to know when to pick the line up.

Del Valle is a strange lake you can troll one side of your yak for trout and the other for Stripers and if you get tired of that you can fish for small mouth or large mouth. That’s why its kind of tough for me I like to troll for Trout but Stripers and Large Mouth are better fighting fish, but my Trout trollers are a bit on the wimpy side so I guess I will have to carry more rods. I know we need to invent the rod caddy a small yak that carries all your rods and gear  :smt044.
