CDFW Inseason Groundfish Recommendation

We likely get a 6-month nearshore (<20F) season in 2024 based on the latest CDFW recommendation to the Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC).

One of the options will likely be adopted by PFMC on March 10 and FGC on March 26, 2024.

Why the November <20 ftms?  What is so special about sharktober that they want to limit inshore fishing?  This doesnt seem to make much sense.

I'm not sure. Maybe allow RF and Dungeness combo. I've received many complaints from hardcore fishermen that November and December have much better fishable weather.

Good point, and those things are true, but there isnt really an ecological or biological reason to close october, open Nov, and close December to inshore fishing, so why regulate it unless it is for these less-important reasons?

You are correct; they are not based on ecological or biological reasons.  They are based on input from California Recreational Groundfish Advisory Sub-Panel (GAP) members and interested stakeholders in which we participated.
