Well I picked up my Mini-X last night and have already fallen in love. Picked it up with one hand and threw it in the back of my Tacoma. It sticks out of the canopy 2'. No more "special" car racks, lumber racks etc.  :smt001

I kept going back and forth between the Mini-X and the OK Caper. Both great yaks, but for me the Mini-X wins. They should call it the "Mighty-X" because it's capable of doing things that larger yaks can't.

I'll post pics as soon as I catch a silver. :smt003

i still contend that you are nuts for going to a smaller yak. however it is good to know that if i ever lose my mind the mini-x is the way to go.

Took it out after work. It was so nice. Pick the kyak up with one arm, throw in the truck. I can carry my tackle box, my paddle tethered to the yak, and my pole down the trail in short order and all in one trip.

No more making two trips, or having to lug the X-Factor onto the truck rack.

Anyway I'm not knock'n the X-Factor (wish I could of had a 2 boat navy), but for my needs the Mini is great.

Very stable, tracked ok, fairly dry and very comfortable. To my surprise I like the built-in footrests better than the adjustable ones. I definately need to build a crate box and add another pole holder up forward. Once you learn not to paddle with too much power the yak tracks very true and straight. I definately need an anchor system also.

Im still waiting to fish it, so I'll reserve pics and my final critique until I've fished "Helga" a few times.  :smt002

Don't ask! :smt009

Hey, I'm the the absolute last guy to recommend a short yak out in the open ocean, but wethopper said he spends most of his time in freshwater creeks and the harbor.

Then there's the fact that the X-factor (non-mini) is an absolute monster of a boat. 14'x33"x65 lbs = pbigboat. I'm thinking that going to the opposite extreme is a reaction to having to deal what that sumbitch.

Whopper,
Cant blame you for dumping the X-factor. Im 6' 170ish, strength of 10 men, and still had issues trying to dominate that barge in big ugly water. Felt like a marble in a bucket out there.
Im a fairly recent mini-x owner and havnt had a chance to really get to know it yet, but Im pleased so far.  I bought it as a specialty fishing boat for C-2 creeks, the russian riv, and possibly the C-lake surf zone.
A small boat with big volume that has amazing stability yet still agile. It is fast off the line and could no doubt jump onto a wave. But to battle currents, swell, or big chop for any extended period or distance could be asking for exhaustion and maybe a situation. This is not the tool for every job.

One of the things that I really liked was that it came outfitted for fishing. Im not sure that Ill be doing any modifications to this boat in a attempt to keep it simple and able to take a thrashing.
A friend spent a few days in it on lakes. He is 6'5" 250ish and loved it. Said it was dryer than his O.K. product (no big surprise). I also have the Tacoma and must confess its nice to just throw it in the back and go. Another use that has been considered, by the Bridgeport posse, is using it as a beer barge by strapping a ice chest on it and everyone sharing the responsibility of dragging it around.
A great boat for its purpose.
enjoy

Amen to that!

I'll be shopping around for a Russian River kayak...will be looking at a MiniX or a OK Frenzy. The right price will win my heart :smt002

I do like the fact that the MiniX has the hatch and the rod holders in 'em already  :smt007

Terry, will you have the minix with ya at BAMIII? Hoping to test drive one.
