Sad…

I regret not going down to his shop for one more razzing by Keith…he’s chased me out of his shop with a broom for talking too much.  Timely with the pending demise of the sturgeon fishery…time is marching on…

I'd go in there asking for 6 ghost shrimp and he'd reply 6 dozen?

I just remembered why he gave me such a hard time, I had show up at closing and he only took cash which I didn't have, but there was a place near by that had an ATM, so he waited grudgingly for me to come back and buy a flat of anchovies. 

Been to his place only two times. I felt like the guy ordering from the soup Nazi.

He was actually a nice guy. Just very straightforward. Rip, Sir.

Used to buy Sturgeon and Halibut baits from him back when I live in Benicia and used to fish at China Camp & Paradise.  RIP Keith 

Sad. I always liked going into the shop.

Remarkable. Such salty curmudgeonlies. Two come to mind.. an old chief engineer and Keith Frazier.
Actually, then there was Chuck the captain... whose butt crack was constantly exposed.

RIP Keith I didn’t have cash one time for a lure I wanted and told me to get him next time. 51 years in that tiny shack such a salty guy at times but awesome resource for info. Helped a lot with fishing preservation too.

I spent a lot of time in that shop, since 2000 when i moved back to marin. I worked near the civic center and would fish on lunch off the levee after grabbing a sandwich or get bait from him and make a quick sturgeon run. Always had to spend a few minutes getting a fishing report.  He could be a surly guy but had a heart of gold.

Years ago Wizard and I ( long time local marin fisher) were headed out in his boat for sturgeon, after getting bait Wizard's boat wouldn't restart. Keith didnt even hestitate, just said, "what are you standing around for? take my boat and go catch some sturgeon." 

My daughter was probably 3ish, when we came in and he saw she was fascinated by Nasty and Nasty Jr sitting on the bait tanks.  He picked her up, put a grass shrimp in her little fingers and helped her to feed Nasty. Never failed to ask about her after that when i'd visit.

I only got to fish with him once. on his boat.  He and Rico (who did many of the drawings in the shop and turns out is a neighbor) invited me out, just a few days after I was weight bearing after breaking my pelvis.
They spent the entire afternoon razzing the new, young guy that could barely get in the boat.  We caught stripers off rocks inon the channel side I didn't even know were there, and trolled the brickyard for more.

The guy was a legend who did an amazing amount for our fishery and bay, and had an impact on a lot of young guys like me.

he will be missed.

Great person.  Have not seen him for years, as I don’t seem to fish that area much anymore.   Used to launch my 14 Valco there for short run.   Now with a 21’ I can launch cheaper at Richmond, saves $26 bridge toll.

Last time I checked with Pat, kayak launch is free and you can use the hose as well.  Gotta watch the tides though and it's a shlep to the channel.
