Hi Everyone,

I really wanted to make it to the Bendo bash - but we have prior commitments w/friends that weekend.

I will be at Seacliff. My husband (non kayaker) asked "Are you bringing the kayak?" AGRRGGGG. A) Isn't this shark season? B) I don't have anyone kayaking with me C) Isn't rockfish (which seems to be the only fish I can catch) season closed?   Sadly, my answer was No, not bringing the kayak - its depressing. Help a sister out -
am I right not to bring it???  :smt120

Miss everyone that I've fished with only once but followed online for a while now!!

Kim
Love it!

Seacliff in Capitola right? It is open for RCG until Dec. 1.

It is always shark season  :smt003

Capitola is nice easy, generally calm.

You have few excuses unless you are building HAF  :smt002

Kim if you don't bring it the Ocean will be as smooth as a babies butt. :violent1:

 Kim -

I would bring the yak and a surf rod. It's really the surf wind and swell (and regs  :smt013)  that keeps us off the water not sharks. If the conditions are questionable you can surf fish or practice launching and landing (without equipment). BTW, you should bring your partner to the chillin at del valle outing in October (1 week after BAM). We will have extra yaks and clinics for newbies. I am sure we can get him addicted to the sport.   :smt003 If that happens, you don't have to worry about HAF.

HAF :smt044

Take the yak, there are rockfish to be had within sight of the beach.  Spot is pressure sensitive, I'll pm you the location.

Help a sister out--am I right not to bring it???

Hey, Kim,

ALWAYS bring your kayak and fishing stuff...and then, if there is enough room left, bring your husband, too! :smt044 Really, it sounds like he's supportive of your new adventures so he's a keeper in my view. I do like Danglin's alternative to wheels and his sage advice:

...and have "hubbie" carry it to the beach!!! :smt044

Do be safe though, ya shouldn't go out alone, especialy your just starting
.....

I'm content to pay the big bucks for the wheels. As for his advice about paddling alone, that's the number one rule of kayakers. It's mine, too, although I didn't heed it in Mendocino because the water was incredibly FLAT and other kayakers were also in the vicinity so help was within reach. Buddying up isn't a matter of being a "Sea Chicken" but more about being safety conscious (or perhaps the buddy should be a good photographer to capture the moment when you catch that big one! :smt002).

BTW, you should bring your partner to the chillin at del valle outing in October (1 week after BAM). We will have extra yaks and clinics for newbies. I am sure we can get him addicted to the sport.

And Scott is spot on: Join the festivities at Lake Del Valle! It's a great place to fish, camp, hike, kayak, or just plain chill...and I'd love to FINALLY meet you! :smt006

You go, girl!

Hello all,

Thanks for the feedback. My husband is definetly a "keeper". Married for 19 years and its all good ;)

I can't make it to the 9/29 bash - again plans........I really need to plan ahead. Big J - sorry - looking forward to meeting you one of these days!

Thanks guys for all the feedback - I won't paddle alone - so I shouldn't bring the yak - but like you said - I'm sure the conditions will be sweet and I'll be kicking myself....  :smt011

Safety first! I have 2 daughters = 14 & 17 - they need their mom, trust me - they need me! :)

I will see you guys come spring?? Looking forward to it no matter what...

Kim

bring the yak and if nothing else you can just practice some surf landing skills.  seacliff is usually a very forgiving place to practice.
