Hi all,
We have a couple places we can make a public comment to encourage recreational access in the Cache Slough/Libery Island area:

The first is a comment period on the Cache Slough Public Access Recreation Action Plan. This is the final Recreation Action plan recommendation for the entire Cache Slough area. We want to encourage them to build a boat ramp to the north of Little Egbert. It is one of the only options that was not deemed "unfeasible", so we want to make it clear that it would be very appreciated.

Public comment period ends Sept 13, so we have a few days to decide comments. All Comments are asked to be posted on a Google sheets post. Please see the below email to get all details and the study is attached.

We also have the opportunity to review the recreational options being proposed in Little Egbert in a zoom meeting. The recreational meeting will be on Sept 26th. See email below for the meeting invite. Since there will be options for feedback it would be great if we could get some BHA members to join the call and give input. If you are interested in the other meetings (Overview, Agriculture, Flood, Habitat) let me know and I will post those meetings as well.

On behalf of Solano County, the California Department of Water Resources (DWR), and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), you are invited to provide public comment on the Draft Cache Slough Public Access Recreation Action Plan. The Action Plan combines input from outreach and engagement activities with stakeholders in 2022 and 2023 with the goal of guiding future County and State investments in feasible, safe, inclusive, and compatible recreation facilities within the Cache Slough region.

The Draft Action Plan is available on Solano County’s website here. It is also attached as a PDF to this email.

To provide one or more comments, please click on the link here to a Google Form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeSEzNgbSEw2wVdsqWuDrKHjGe9Vvp1YEHDEzXVtklgCKxIog/viewform. There are instructions on the first page, and you have the ability to provide up to five comments using the form. If you wish to provide more than five comments, please submit an additional Google form.

While we encourage you to provide comments using the Google Form, you may also email a letter with your comments to the MOU Partners. Please email your letters to project team member Katie Stone at katie.stone@jacobs.com.

The 30-day public review period will begin today, August 14, 2023 and end September 13, 2023.

The MOU Partners will consider all comments received, update the document, and prepare a Final Action Plan for approval.

If you wish to not receive messages related to this effort, please reply to this email and we will remove you from our contact list.

Thank you!

Thanks for posting that. I am still bummed we are loosing land access to liberty island. This seems like a pretty broad topic covered in the meeting, not related to any one particular project, right?

The upcoming Zoom meeting will be specifically about Little Egbert project and discussing how recreation could be incorporated in that upcoming restoration project. This meeting is where we can show that there is a lot of interest in a boat ramp at Lindsay Slough, but it is also a time we could express interest in land based access to mitigate the land access we lost at Liberty Island. I have been trying my best to encourage them to think about shore based fishing access, marsh access for snipe hunting, and kayak access. The big issue is that a lot of these new ecological restorations do not want to allow land based access (I have heard due to fears that it could inhibit Giant garter snake habitat). If they can show that there wasn't much public interest in the area then they can justify (in the proposed restoration) not mitigating or accommodating recreation access. This is an interesting twist to the age old "development takes away habitat", in this case we are restoring habitat, but access is getting taken away.

Just a reminder that the Zoom meeting to discuss recreation at Little Egbert with public comment is tomorrow at 10 am! Don't let this opportunity pass us by, let your kayaking voices be heard!
