Hello Folks,

Nice to be among you.

I was referred to the group by Jesse from King Salmon, CA so thanks to him for the intro.

I hang at Shelter Cove when not elsewhere and fish from a Yum Yum Yellow Hobie.  I haven't been out lately, but I think my truck is running well enough to get the yak down to the water & back now...

Leaving on Sat but would love to hear from anyone in The Cove this week especially.

Best,
Michael aka Chilango

Our local fb group LCKA just had an event down there. Rock fishing was good but socked in fog and swift current from the south made it tough to stay on the fish or get anywhere. We spent all saturday morning trying to make it to the whistle, picked up a few nice fish then came back and were EXHAUSTED.

Dont even drop anything in the harbor, its filthy with silvers and some kings feeding on the large school of anchovy. I tried for cali hali and thresher but couldn't find any. I would just troll some squid in the reef to catch vermillion and rockfish and keep the kings off. it was easiest to catch fish just out front were the current wasn't so bad. Make sure u have gps and backup because we were socked in.

Welcome !

Love me some Shelter Cove.

If you dont mind me asking ? Is this correct ?

Chilango ? MEANING OF CHILANGO
I was surprised to find out that the word “chilango” is a slang demonym for people who live in Mexico City (of all places in Mexico).

According to the Mexican Academy of Language and the Royal Spanish Academy, the word means “belonging to Mexico City” so it’s used to refer to those who were born and raised in the capital.

"Chilango" is his handle. Just a question. By no means is anything derogatory meant.

--- Great to hear from you all.

Chilango is indeed a slang, I don't think derogatory, term for one who hails from Mexico City.
Although I've visited there and learned bout the slang there, I am second generation American of Ukrainian (prolly heard of them now...), Italian and Flemish folks.  But I have worked with a lot of Latino folks over the years in LA and the nickname started as a joke, kinda stuck, and I don't mind it.

So ya; great to be in touch with you; call me what you like.   Some close friends call me Chi for short..

Poopsmith:  (Good handle!)   Glad to hear there are salmon in town at least even if you can't keep them.  Hopefully they'll go
reproduce and we have a great catch in a few years...
I spend most summers now until early August in UT where I flyfish pretty often. (Not saying I catch a lot!)  I release
most of the Cutthroat I catch keeping the Browns & Rainbows for dinner.  I'm interested to start fly fishing in salt
                  water.   Anyone doing that here?

About a month and a half ago I had the fam out to North Jetty in Eureka. Bait had showed up and blacks of various sizes were blasting them on the surface. We caught quite a few on top water. Would be a perfect scenario for a streamer.
