Sorry for the late post, I realized today that this group might be interested in this. A short summary of what is happening: A bunch of tracks of land are being flooded for environmental rehabilitation purposes and this comes with pros and cons for recreational fishermen. The big con is that Liberty Island land access is gone, due to breaking the levee road that leads to there. But there are public discussions on how they can build recreational opportunities up for the area. A big meeting is happening TOMORROW (5/4) at 2 pm via Zoom (must register). I am trying to advocate for small water craft boat launches to be built in strategic areas so that access to these new flooded tracts will be possible. We need as many advocates as we can because there have been a lot of groups arguing against access. If you have questions please let me know! See below for the details that were sent to me:

On behalf of Solano County, the California Department of Water Resources (DWR), and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), you are invited to attend a virtual public meeting to provide input on the Cache Slough Public Access Recreation Action Plan. During the meeting, the partner agencies will present key content to be included in the Draft Action Plan, including:

Analysis of current recreation opportunities;
Criteria developed to evaluate and prioritize opportunities; and
Recommendations for identifying future opportunities

Thursday, May 4 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

To attend this event, please register https://kearnswest.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0udumspjwiEtGx9O0MahBHvF2uvABCNPPT.

Solano County, DWR, and CDFW have developed a Recreation Action Plan, which combines input from outreach and engagement activities with stakeholders in 2022 and 2023. The Recreation Action Plan will help guide future County and State investments in feasible recreation facilities within the Cache Slough region that are safe, inclusive, and respect local land uses and landowners.

Join the discussion to learn about the recreation opportunities being considered in this plan.

This is such a cool nexus of things for me. Just started working part-time for Kerans and West and have been fishing Liberty for the past 2 years. My understanding is that the existing plan would still allow for kayak launches at the end of the levee road with minimal parking. Is that still the case? I won't be able to make a public comment today, the timing of these meetings really works against public comment unfortunately, but best of luck building support for the small boat launch.

Quick summary:
They have committed to building a small craft boat launch with limited parking (26 cars) at the east end of Liberty Road, where the Levee will be breached. This will allow access to both Shag Slough and the inside of lookout slough. They are also still considering a boat launch On the North end of Little Egbert, in Lindsey Slough (North East of Rio Vista), but there are still potential issues around how to access the area by road. Most other suggestions (boat launch at Calhoun cut, bridge access to Liberty Island) have been deemed "not feasible". We will need to be on the lookout for the final proposal later this year.
